Westborough --
State Representative Danielle Gregoire, D-Marlborough,  joined Westborough officials this morning at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated rear portion of the downtown Arcade Building, now known as Piccadilly Place.

Stonegate Group, which owns the property at 3-5 Milk Street, began construction on the project in November, 2012.

"We have worked on this project conceptually for the past three years," said Stonegate Group Chief Operating Officer Dean Calivas.

The renovations covered six commercial spaces on the the building's first floor and five apartment units on the second floor.

Rents for the one-and two-bedroom apartments will start at $1,350 and Calivas said some commercial tenants have shown interest in the property, which offers storefronts on the downtown rotary.

Calivas said a 3,500-gallon grease trap and utilities for a kitchen were also installed in the basement for future restaurant use.

Stonegate dubbed the historic site Piccadilly Place because it is the former home of the (original) Piccadilly Pub.

"People have fond memories of 'the old Piccadilly Pub building'," Calivas said.

The project involved replacing all the exterior brick of the building, extending sidewalks and beautifying side entrances to the property along Milk Street.

Calivas said he hopes the work serves as a model for other downtown Westborough buildings.
