The redevelopment of the
former Penny Savings Bank at 1361-1375 Washington Street
in the South End creates a unique structure composed
of the existing 2 story white marble building with a
restored exterior and a new three story contemporary
addition. The mixed use project will include retail
on the ground floor and parking using the existing driveway
and lower level.
Originally constructed in 1917, the Boston Penny Savings
Bank was built in a Classical Revival style with a polished
white marble façade and stately pillars. The building
is one of a kind in the city. Almost 100 years later,
Stonegate Group is proud to introduce the restoration
of this elegant building.
The new addition of a simple, glass curtain wall to
the original building will create a total of 23 condominiums
consisting of lofts, 1, 2, and 2+ bedrooms. Retail space
covering 9000 square feet will be offered on the street
level where finance and commerce once thrived. Underground
parking will provide space for more than 25 cars. With
unsurpassed views of the city and the Cathedral, the
fusion of old and new will make Penny's at Union Park
one of the most desirable locations in Boston's South
End.
